This Father's Day GO FOR THE GUYS

Church for Men is now offering a free guide to help your church conduct a man-friendly worship service — just in time for Father's Day.

The Go for the Guys Sunday Action Plan will help you plan, prepare for and execute a successful worship service that targets men and boys. We recommend that you conduct a Go for the Guys Sunday at least once a quarter, in order to build momentum.

The action plan includes everything you need for the planning process: sample announcements, decorating ideas, music guildlines, fun elements, preaching and teaching ideas, object lesson suggestions and more.

DVD update

I had no idea what a complex process it was to have a DVD manufactured. But the DVD is being made right now in a factory in New Jersey. We plan to have it available here on the Web site by June 15. You'll see a new tab to the left titled STORE. Thanks for your patience.

If you want to be informed as soon as the DVD is available, sign up for the Church for Men e-newsletter, using the sign up box to the right of this column.

Britain's cathedrals attract growing crowds

LONDON: Britain’s cathedrals are attracting growing congregations, especially at festival times, new research shows. Cathedral attendance overall has increased 3.5 per cent but Easter congregations have soared by as much as 70 per cent in some cities.

The Dean of Coventry Cathedral put this record surge in his congregation down to a combination of spiritual awakening and the desire to “stay anonymous and not be hugged and greeted”.

The Dean has figured out what we've been saying all along: not everyone wants to be mobbed with attention in church. Especially men. Regular blokes aren't necessarily looking for a warm, nurturing worship environment.

Send us a picture of your mangled book

Have you worn out your copy of Why Men Hate Going to Church? Would you like a replacement copy, signed by the author? Just e-mail me a picture of your beat-up book by May 31. If yours is chosen as the most pummeled paperback, I'll send you a new one free of charge.

Thanks to John Subritzky of PK New Zealand for sending this image of his tattered tome.
